Hi there!

I'm Mike Gaynor and I'm the Editor & Publisher of the Shelter Island Voice. I moved to Shelter Island in 2018 after living on the South Fork since 1995. I never planned on falling in love with this place - and then it happened. My wife and I and our horses live on a little farm over on Cobbetts Lane.

I launched the Shelter Island Voice in March of 2024 after reading a series of articles in the New York Times about the dire state of local news papers throughout the United States where 5 local papers are closing every 2 weeks. ​

I've watched from the sidelines in relative horror for the past several years as the Island's only other news outlet - The Shelter Island Reporter - commitment to delivering honest and accurate news to our community has all but vanished and I knew that something had to be done.

 

So please join me on this journey as we aim to produce the best coverage of all things related to Shelter Island - without Fear or Favor.
